I really want this car I have been looking at for some time now, I’ve watched countless reviews online, checked ratings, etc. It overall seems to be a great car, but I want to test drive or at least look at the car in person before making a purchase. I have called so many dealerships and looked online for my entire state to find any way to do this, but all these cars are sold before they hit the lot. The dealerships call and offer to let me put a deposit in to buy it but I just cannot feel good doing that without viewing these cars in person. Sure they seem great but what if I find I can’t fit in the car? Well I was talking to my gf and we passed by neighbors car in our apartment parking lot and I noticed it’s the same year, same car, same sub model, etc. of the car I want. Even same color! I’ve been in awe of the car and pretty much geek out every time we drive by it. I would never ask a stranger to let me test drive their car, that seems like such an overreach. But I thought about asking to view the car, I don’t know who it is though since my apartment is pretty big. Would it be OK to maybe write a note and leave it under the wiper reaching out? Something like,

“Hey I really like your car! I have been thinking of purchasing one from a dealership and would love to view the car sometime if that were possible. My name is X my number is X, thanks for taking the time to read this. Sorry to bother or intrude, I think you have a nice ride!”

Is this too much? Is a note okay or should I wait until maybe I catch them around their car, should I just not do or say anything because that’s intrusive? I don’t want to make someone feel uncomfortable, like that I’m hovering over their car at night. I don’t want to give anyone a reason to feel unsafe.

  1. Don’t write a note. Catch them in person. It’s less weird, and you can judge body language.

  2. What car are you looking at that they don’t have a show car in the showroom?

You can ask. You don’t say how good of neighbors you two are.

Don’t just write a note. Ask in person.

  3. See if you can hire one from a local car rental place, they might have some on fleet or be able to point you to someone who does.

  4. Talk to them in person. Instead of asking them to look at the car, ask them if they will talk about if they’re happy with the car, any pros or cons they’re willing to share, etc… I’m sure they’ll offer to let you look inside.
