Are there any books, movies or TV shows with a female main character that you love? What are they?

  1. Buffy, tomb raider, doll house, terminator, alien, horizon zero dawn, honor herrington, diamond age

  2. Arcane. Latest JJBA. Alien – Ripley was a badass. Just from the top of my memory of things that I enjoyed.

  3. Aliens, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Erin Brockovich, Silence of the Lambs, The Crown, Wednesday, Buffy, Yellow Jackets, Jessica Jones, Godless, Yellowstone (Beth is literally the best character.), etc.

  4. I don’t know if animated female counted but Toph from Avatar The Last Airbender and Alita from Alita Battle Angel are my favorite.

  5. I always liked the Resident Evil movies.
They’re trash, but they’re fun trash.

    Tomb Raider was decent, too.

I also really liked Crazy ex girlfriend. Ironically after the craziest girl I’ve dated so far had suggested it to me.

  6. *Alien*

It’s hard now to remember how unusual it was for a woman to lead a movie like this. It really did change modern moviemaking in a lot of important ways.

  7. The red lantern, The way home, Tokyo story, The passion of Joan of Arc, , The time traveler’s wife, etc, etc.

  8. *Hidden Figures*

There’s every kind of power dynamic in this one: women against men, Black against white, staff against management, nerd against nerd.

    Also: restroom parity.

  9. Alien and Kill Bill are the ones off the top of my head, but to be fair I’d have to think about it even if you asked for male leads specifically. Easier to simply ask for good reads/watches.

  10. I just started watching Fringe again, one of my favorite series from my teenage years. Heroes was also great. Kill Bill, Alien, Tomb Raider, Underworld and Silence of the Lambs were also great.

Thinking back, it seems funny how it is said that we were missing strong female leads in the past. Seems more like they were forgotten – or intentionally disrespected by ignoring them – by those with an agenda.

  11. *Fargo*

Let’s hear it for pregnant, amiable, kind-hearted, but unstoppable police chief Marge Gunderson.

  12. *Thelma And Louise*

Deeper than it seems, more harrowing than it lets on.

  13. Kill bill and alien (Movie series)

Family Guy (Lois and Meg are part of the lead as Peter and the rest of the family. TV Show)

    A splendid thousand suns (Book)

    Tomb Raider (Video Game)

Evanescence/Amy Lee (Rock Band with female leader singer)

Lauren Babic (Youtubber who does metal covers of songs she chooses)

EDIT: If you are from TwoXChormosones or MensRights subreddits. DON’T TALK TO ME. YOU WILL GET BLOCKED. ;). I prefer interacting with people who aren’t hate filled freaks.

  14. *Beloved* by Toni Morrison

An essential novel that’s one of the hardest to read from a Nobel Laureate.

  15. The Color Purple, Where The Crawdads Sing, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse, Kill Bill, V for Vendetta, Alien, Tomb Raider, Rogue One.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer was a huge, huge part of my childhood.

Whenever I feel sick or anything, I stick on the box-set to feel cozy.

Edit: Special shoutout to Dark Angel Created by James Cameron and Charles H. Eglee.

  16. Three great shows with the worst fucking titles of all time:

    Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

    Jane the Virgin

    Teenage Bounty Hunters

  17. I just finished reading Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. While her two female protagonists, Ead and Tané, are in many ways the same character, it’s a good character, and I couldn’t tear myself away from the book.

  18. Korra from Avatar.
Every female character in the Expanse tv show. They absolutely stole the show and my heart.

Edit: i forgot Hilda from the netflix show. She is just great.

  19. Love is a strong word in my opinion. I have a lot of movies and tv shows I like. I thought Hanna was pretty good and out of all those dreadful new star wars movies. Rogue one was good and the lead playing Jyn was fantastic.

  20. Growing up, I think all my favourites were female led. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was the big one.

His Dark Materials is still one of my most read series of books.

The X-Files was the first mature programme I regularly watched.

The Alien series was also one of the first adult horror films I watched. And I only wanted to watch it because I saw that classic image of Ripley and a big ass gun. In the same way I would also say Terminator.

Oh, and Tomb Raider was my favourite series of games.

  21. Any of the Kdramas. Black, Bring It On Ghost, Oh My Ghost, Sell Your Haunted House.
