Put some respect on Bob the Builder’s name yo.
We didn’t do that. Take it up with r/askUK
That was the English. Ask them.
It’s due to that long held very American tradition known as cockney rhyming. We apologize.
Robert Bobby and Bob are all very cool names
I mean, the British somehow turned Featherstonhaugh into “fanshaw.” Don’t underestimate them.
It was the Brits that did it especially the cockneys who like doing a lot of rhyming nicknames. Robert -> Rob -> Bob.
They also did Richard -> Rich-> Rick -> Dick
They do a lot of chained rhyming/reference nicknames.
Pint of Stella -> Mandela -> Pint of Nelson or just Nelson
I can’t tell if you’re joking. Euro/10
Ask the Brits
Diminutive nicknames for “Robert” predate this nation’s founding.
Bob slander! Lol
Robert > Rob > Bob
Margaret > Peggy!?!?
Hey, at least they’re not Richards being contracted to “Dick”
>you
Wrong “you”, friend. It’s English, not American. They did it first.
Because we didn’t go to war with the Brits at the time they invented cockney rhyming schemes and for that we are deeply sorry. We should’ve done more to stop them from embarrassing the entire English language with their nursery rhyme slang
Since when is Robert a cool name?
I don’t I go by Rob.
