  1. i’ve been a night shifter for the last 9 years, and it’s excellent. next to no traffic on the roads and i get to go grocery shopping after work right after they open so there’s barely anyone else in the store.

  2. 18 years of mostly night shift. I prefer it. Less management, more relaxed working environment.

  3. I often work late.

Usually get out by 10p but sometimes not until 1am, though not usually much later.

  4. I am pretty flexible with my work schedule. I usually start by 10am. But I often take long breaks, go to the gym or even meet people and continue work later. I often do some work after dinner until midnight.

  5. For a bit I did and I kinda liked how the drive back home didn’t have that much traffic

  6. I do nights. I like having no management around and day shift is too busy with too many people

  7. I worked a night shift for a year, having moved from day shift it was bizarre how different the warehouse operated, everyone was closer than family and it was laid back, only downside was my social life went down the drain in my early 20s. Moved from nights to a twilight shift (6pm-2am) which worked much better, mad rush for the first 4 hours, chilled and laid back for the last 4 and still able to have a decent social life in-between

  8. work nights. Gas Station Attendant. Pretty chill, its a gas station just off the side of the highway and basically all other stations in the surrounding areas are closed so it does still get busy at night.

  9. Only very occasionally.

We have people here who work permanent nights, which sounds hideous, so I only work nights if they need cover for a round and I fancy a week off afterwards.

I used to work two days, two nights, four off in the fire service and the coastguard, though.

Working one shift all the time sounds rubbish.

  10. Not since I was in the military. Mids were my favorite shift. It was an hour shorter (morning shift was 9, swing was 8 and mids was 7), you didn’t have to worry about all the Officers floating around, it was chill and in general you didn’t have to attend the obnoxious military ceremonies – change of commands etc.

  11. Currently on my night shift, I work swing during the week and 12hr graveyard on the weekend. Been this way got a little over two years.

  12. My previous and current job were both nightshifts, been doing it for a year and I just can’t go back to working during the day.

  13. I used to.

Terrible experience. Couldn’t have a normal meal schedule. High risk of things like cancer if you do it for awhile, etc.

Frankly, I think it ought to be outlawed with exceptions for emergency workers.

  14. Not anymore, but my first real job after college was working 12 am – 8 am and 4 pm – 12 am shifts covering a data center.
