And as I continue to walk away putting one foot in front of the other… I get the strength to look behind me at this bridge which continues to burn. You might argue that it is in context of having white privilege that enables me to have the choice to walk away. You are probably right. My rebuttal to you for saying this is that
We teach others how to treat us Therefore by repressing the truth and/
the reality that they are indeed disregarding us( and our contributions) and by continuing to stay in an unhealthy relationship. In doing so (staying in an environment that devalues who you are for whatever reason)we are enabling them to continue to do so.
In the spirit of Eleanor: No one can make you feel small without your permission… I continue walking away with my head held high.
I am choosing other worthy causes through which to channel my passion and commitment to social change.
