My boyfriend says “I don’t care” a lot but he means it more as “I don’t mind”.

It’s not really a problem now that I know he is not in fact being rude when he says “I don’t care”, after talking about it with him. Maybe it’s also made worse because my boyfriend is typically rather monotone and flat in tone?

My question is, am I oversensitive/misinformed to think that by default it’s a rather dismissive and rude phrase?

  1. I think this is just a generally common form of miscommunication. A lot of people use it the way he meant it, but a lot of people are likely to interpret it the way you did as well. It all comes down to context and the other person’s experiences with that phrase.

  2. Actually I also don’t know how to say in nice word and ended up in rude manner but my hubby understand my feelings behind my words . So don’t worry about words but feelings..
