In your opinion, what would be a good city to live in the UK that usually goes unnoticed?

  1. Sheffield, every time I’ve been on a night out it’s been good

  2. Most people will just end up stating places they liked visiting. Most people likely only live in a few locations in their life, so it’s hard to gauge.

  3. Chester. I’ve visited a few times and it’s beautiful, but I’ve never seen people talk about it much

  4. London.

People shit on it a lot but it’s a great city. One of the largest mega cities in Europe and the world.

Statistically and per capita it’s safer than a lot of cities in the north.

There’s always something to do, always great music, great museums and galleries, great cafes, restaurants, the public transport is good and there’s a large concentration of interesting people.

  5. I spent a year living in Nottingham, while not much to do as a tourist, it was alright to live in.

Plenty of green spaces, lots of football matches to join, good transport system, decent city centre with a variety of restaurants/bars.

Good location in the country with regards to being close to the north & only 3 hours from London.

Rental market went a bit crazy while I was there though. The escooters are a pain as well.

  6. Bristol gets to you and tugs at the heartstrings. It isn’t the best or the biggest at anything but it’s cool and people don’t tend to leave it.

  7. It seems to be a bit of a meme that Milton Keynes is awful, but my sister and niece live there and I think it is a lovely city.

  8. Worcester is the perfect size, sits perfectly balanced between dump/poncy and has interesting history plus access to very nice scenery to the west.

  9. Glasgow

I see SO many people wanting to go to Edinburgh and saying Glasgow isn’t worth going to, but every time I’ve been to Edi, it feels almost like a theme park? So catered for tourists and I haven’t enjoyed it. Glasgow just feels more fun and the vibe is better. There’s hunners to do, lots of history, incredible architecture and the people are legit funny and nice, 10/10 prefer

  10. Hull, if you define underrated as ‘cheap, and not BRADFORD’. Has some interesting quirks (own telephone company!) and doesn’t always crop up on the list of Worst Places in England. Unlike BRADFORD.

  11. Portsmouth is an awesome city to live in. House prices are significantly cheaper than most of the south coast. it’s within easy(and short) traveling distance of Brighton London Bournemouth and Southampton. It has lots to do in the summer around the common and band stand, has a passable nightlife, and thanks to its rich naval history we get some great celebrations and events around that like the Trafalgar and d day anniversaries. I just find it’s got that ideal combination of being a city and all the benefits that come with that while also being a seaside town and having plenty of more rural scenery only a short distance away.

It might not be the most amazing place to visit but it’s a great and affordable place to live and lots of those more interesting places are only a short trip away.

  12. I’ll probably get downvoted, but for me it has to be London. All I read on this sub is how much people hate London, so obviously it’s rated quite low, but I think it should be top of the list. Absolutely fantastic place, loads to do, low crime, great transport, lovely people, very diverse but seeped in tradition.

  13. Hull has had a bad rep for years. Have been there twice in the last few years and have loved it. Post ” European City Of Culture ” status of a few years ago, it has really upped it’s game. I remember how proud the volunteers were to laud it’s benefits.
A very up and coming city with a fabulous nautical history.

  14. Liverpool. Most of the country probs wont agree as they still think its the same shit hole it was in the 80s. Great people, great history and great night life for all.
