I have an appointment for my dog that I booked 6 months ago with a specialist that I completely forgot about. As it turns out the place needs to reschedule due to an emergency (which is how I found out I had the appointment in the first place!). They’re asking me to reschedule sometime in June but I already scheduled at a different practice (for various reasons). The thing is that the person at the original place is very well connected in the dog-world so I don’t want to burn a bridge as I might run into them in other contexts later. Any advice on how to reply and not reschedule?

  1. When responding to the request to reschedule the appointment, it’s important to be polite, honest, and appreciative of the opportunity. Here’s an example of a response that can help you navigate the situation without burning bridges:

    Dear [Specialist’s Name],

Thank you for reaching out to inform me about the need to reschedule my dog’s appointment. I sincerely appreciate your prompt notification and understanding of the situation. I hope everything is alright regarding the emergency.

Unfortunately, I have recently scheduled an appointment with another practice due to some pressing reasons that emerged after I had made the original booking with your clinic. As much as I value the opportunity to see you and your expertise, it would be challenging for me to cancel the appointment I’ve made with the other practice.

I deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and understand the importance of maintaining professional connections within the dog community. I hope we can find another opportunity in the future to collaborate or meet in different contexts. Please know that I hold your expertise in high regard and would be more than happy to recommend your services to others in need.

Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused and I truly appreciate your understanding.

    Best regards,
    [Your Name]

By expressing your gratitude, explaining your situation honestly, and acknowledging the importance of maintaining professional connections, you demonstrate respect and consideration for the specialist. This approach can help mitigate any potential negative impact on your relationship while keeping the lines of communication open for future interactions.
