I made a new friend online and met up in real life. We get along but I realized that our conversations are one-sided. She’s constantly talking about her dating/sex life which I don’t mind because I do ask her questions to keep our conversations going. But she doesn’t usually ask about my life. I told her that my father passed way a few years ago and she just kept talking about her ex. I don’t expect her to be my therapist but it would be nice if she could just acknowledge how I’ve been feeling with regards to my grief.

Did anyone experience a one-sided friendship? Are you still friends with that person?

  1. Honestly I havent experienced such a thing because I struggle to find anyone to talk to. I am very much alone 🙁

Have you tried being upfront with her? Like being direct? She sounds very self absorbed. You say that you don’t expect her to be your therapist, and yet, it sounds like she’s the type of person to treat you like you’re her therapist?

If you’ve tried everything and nothing’s working then I suggest you look for friendship elsewhere. It doesn’t seem like she values your feelings at all, and you deserve better. It’s always good to learn to have self respect and don’t let anyone treat like you like some doormat. Assert boundaries.
