On the occasions someone has licked my asshole, it was a surprise to be sure, but luckily I cleaned a finger length inside my anus. I would definitely clean more than just the outer surface. What lies within is too close to risk getting a peak out while a tongue is exploring. Clean like someone is planning on eating something delicious off of it where they want to get every bit.
