All my close friends live in my old state/are online friends and it’s really hard not to just rely on coworkers. I used to have plans almost every night back in my old state with friends from all over, and now I’m lucky if my coworkers want to grab a drink on Fridays. How do I get recreate my group? I prefer to exercise solo and my hobbies aren’t necessarily social ones.

  1. You have to pick one or more places where you can see people regularly. So for most people it could be: work, neighborhood/building/living space, exercise class, volunteer work, adult recreational sports, hobby/interest group, professional club, political action group, adult ed class, etc.

You start up regular conversations each time you see people so you can develop a rapport. After a while you need to invite the person to do something OUTSIDE the place where you know them from. So, something simple like get a cup of coffee, go for a walk or run, grab lunch, do an errand together, check out a new part of town etc. Then you follow up with brief ‘check-in’ texts a couple times a week.
