  1. In this era texting is more common than calling. If you are friends (and assuming you have regular or semi-regular contact with them), its not exactly “out of the blue”.

  2. Well you could call a new friend if you wanted to invite them to do something in advance . I mean to make plans to do something. Could be something as simple as going out to eat or something more complicated like a concert or sporting event.

  3. I face time a lot with mine or we talk on the phone. I’m very extroverted so I feel like I’m constantly rotating yet keeping touch with the classics. I work from home and it’s a very auto pilot job so it’s nice to chat with someone while I do it. They all know so they take full advantage. I don’t mind.

When you get into an Uber and your driver is just hanging up his phone with a “okay, I’ll call you back after this drop off”. It’s probably me.

Oh these types of friends never text and since we are all pretty much single workaholics in our 30’s, meetings in person are scarce. I’ll get a meme once a year if I’m lucky. But calls are weekly. Lunchtimes are my favorite because I don’t have coworkers so I get all the tea about their own coworkers.
