Discussing details with my fiancé, and party bags came up. Wondering what people tend to do for this type of thing? The children involved will vary in age greatly as its 90% a family affair (~20 kids, age1-14).
I remember it being mostly rubbish as a child, so hopefully someone has some ideas for me.

  1. I’ve done books before. I got a load of children’s books and handed them out instead of party bags. Everyone liked them I think and better than all the plastic and sugary shit that’s usually in party bags!

Maybe something else for the older ones or get older books for them too. Dunno really, do 14 year olds expect a party bag?

  2. you dont need to hand out Party favours. just make sure there is plenty of cake and pizzza.

  3. Get some bubble wands, or a bubble machine. That works well for mixed age groups.

Party bags are a useful tool at parties for same-age children (eg where they’re all from the same school class) to signify “the party has finished, go home now.” Babies and family don’t need that.

  4. All first birthday parties I remember had summer birthdays, so just a extended friend’s & family bbq and they hosted. You provide the food/drink/ice poles and receive the presents from the attendees.
