This has happened to me 3 times in the past week. I just don’t understand it. Why plan a date/send your phone number in the first place?

  1. It’s easy to get carried away with chatting to someone while there’s no commitment. The second you give a number or agree to meet, a certain degree of commitment (to an action, not a relationship!) is created, which can in itself make you realise you just got carried away and don’t actually want to take things any further at all.

It’s embarrassing to admit that, so they just go silent.

  2. 20 percent of men get 80 percent of the matches, so statistically it’s likely that if you match with a guy, he’s getting a load of other matches as well. Could be that they match with someone they prefer and focus on them instead.

Online dating has also made the idea popular that a potential partner has to be absolutely perfect or else you get “the ick” and are no longer interested.
