  1. Padova, northern Italy.

This morning we have an appointment in the Scrovegni Chapel, the masterpiece of Giotto.

  2. One of the most disturbing things on Reddit is the extreme nationalism of certain smaller countries in the Caucasus and the Balkans. Reading comments by Azeris and Armenians against each others countries and the ex-Yugoslavs against each other is something else. That kind of hatred is different from nationalism in the US, UK, or most Western countries in that it seems so pervasive there that there doesn’t seem to nuance or room for negotiation by moderates regarding their interpretation of historical events.

You’ll get a few Americans or whoever defending some horrible event committed by the US and a few others who actively condemn it at every opportunity. A large chunk doesn’t care that much it and is more interested in their daily lives. It even seems to be similar in Russia regarding current events despite war fever that often occurs when a country is at war. Maybe it’s the internet, but something feels off when the Azeri opposition cheers for their dictator/president irl, and the Armenians seem to b awfully quite about the ethnic cleansing they did in the 1990s when they had the upper hand irl.
