I consider myself fine with eye contact, i’ve never really even thought about it, but I did last night when I was talking to a girl who was maintaining it for way too long, she was just staring into my eyes and I didn’t know if I should do the same or pretend I didn’t notice.

Anyway I looked up what to do in that situation and didn’t get an answer, but I did see some common answers on eye contact in general, and they bamboozled me. ‘Stare at the space between their eyes”, “look at their forehead”, “look at their lips”, “look at their nose”. These all seem really weird to me, if I was talking to someone and they were staring at my forehead or my nose i’d think there was something wrong, like I had a cut or something. And if someone was staring at my lips it would seem pretty suggestive.

  1. For some people eye contact is hard or uncomfortable this is something you see a lot with people on the spectrum.

The idea is that it is better to at least pretend to have eye contact and look AT the person to show you are paying attention instead of just looking down , across the room , off to the side etc.

Also people ( generally) seem to not care about social etiquette and parents aren’t bothering to teach it to their children now a days.
