I’m 15, just finished the first year of high school after 8 years in elementary school.
In elementary school I had good friends in class, we would hang out almost every day throughout summer break.

When I went to a high school this year we all kinda stopped talking. In my new class I didn’t find any friends and now I’m alone for the summer.

How do I find new friends considering I made the past friends only through school, it was convenient because I would be around them all day so we easily became close, I didn’t have that luck in the new school. I feel lonely right now and I somehow need to find people for this summer.

  1. Certain things change during high school. All of a sudden everyone is almost a legal adult and they’re trying to find people who will help them transition into someone who can make money and build their network of interesting and attractive people.

Easy friendships will get harder to find and what you can offer to others will be considered more and more, whether that be financial, emotional, knowledge, or social benefits.

I would suggest slowly starting to accept this change and start building your own world where you have activities that make you feel alive and feel good. Then, when meeting people, look at it more like ‘will they be a good person to include in my world’ rather than ‘I hope they will be my friend’.

Because, as you’ve found out, friends come and go. Most relationships are like that. Sometimes you will find people who are able to provide a bit of that friendship you had in elementary school. The rest will either be uninterested or will offer you a more adult style friendship.
