I reached out to an old friend on social media. We used to be good friends and lost touch. He gave me his number asking to me to reach out to him if I want to be in touch. I am probably overthinking, but should I message him and give him my number? Or just call him if I need a some professional help?

Usually for this situation it’s appropriate to text them something like “hey this is (your name)” so they can get your contact in their phone.
I think it’s the normal way to do it, you don’t need to ask for the other person’s number because they will get it when they receive your call/message
In fact it’s a good sign because if they didn’t want you to contact them they’d ask for yours and then not contact you.
