To all of my guys out there that have been engaged and then called it off, what did you do with the ring? Are the only real options to pawn it or let it collect dust in a drawer somewhere?

  1. I think the only real option is to pawn/sell it. Keeping it around is just a shitty reminder and attempting to reuse for your next engagement has to be bad juju…

  2. Sell it quick. Just don’t hold on to it and try to get something out of it. I traded mine to a buddy for a 1995 roller 240sx because his girl helped pick it out for my failed relationship and wanted it for their engagement.

  3. If you were planning on giving it to someone than sell it and if someone gave it to you than give it back, because that’s the right thing to do.

  4. I think there’s an Adam Sandler movie where he uses a ring to tell a sob story about his divorce/dead wife (idk I didn’t watch it) at bars in order to get laid. So I guess that’s an option.

  5. If it’s done done then sell it. Don’t waste your time with a pawn shop. Shop it to jewelers who buy that sort of thing.

I’m sorry you are going through this.

  6. Unless it is a family heirloom, the best thing you could do is sell/pawn it.

  7. Technically my marriage failed before she passed away but I still have the ring. I’ll be giving it to my daughter along with a pocket watch with an engraving on it from her mother. We both had identical bands, got simple silver rings was we were very poor at the time. I don’t know what happened to her mothers ring (she probably threw it away), I I’ve got that keepsake for her when she is responsible enough.

  8. If you pawn it you’re not getting shit. Get it cleaned, put it in a box and hope you’ll get a chance to use it again.

  9. A buddy of mine took his back to where he’d bought it, and just exchanged it for a nice watch, or a decorative man’s ring, I can’t remember. But either way he found a good use in the exchange.

  10. I’ve offered to dissolve my girlfriends’ rings (after divorce)in acid. (I used to be a chemistry teacher).

  11. If it’s a diamond ring then expect to take a hit; you’ll get the value of the gold and maybe a little extra if the setting is very nice, but secondhand diamonds are worthless.

You may be as well keep it for next time.
