I like taking a walk along the water of leith. Slateford to Leith is my preferred stretch.
Camera Obscura is so much fun!
The National Museum of Scotland is free as is Calton Hill, Portobello is a nice visit. There is a Edinburgh sub which has a lot of old posts with ideas.
National Museum of Scotland is brilliant. You could easily spend best part of a day there. Officially it’s free but you can donate if you wish.
The Camera Obscura is £20 (online) so if that’s within your means I highly recommend it.
Make sure you go on a bright sunny day, otherwise they’ll only be able to show you a projection of what it looks like and that’s not as much fun.
Plenty good walks. You can go up aethirs seat or Calton Hill. There’s beaches or museums. Depends what you’re into tbh. Princes Street Gardens are beautiful too or Hollyrood park
Scott monument. Great view, lots of steps. £8.
As someone else has said, the water of Leith is great; get yourself into Dean Village which already feels like you’re somewhere else entirely, and walk along to Stockbridge at least.
If it’s a nice day, have a picnic on the Meadows – it’s not far from Greyfriars Bobby so pretty central, and it’s always lively.
The Portrait Gallery is really lovely and there’s so much you can see for free; it’s up to you if you want to pay for the exhibits that are on when you’re there.
The Botanic Gardens are free for the most part, you don’t have to go into the paid areas, and they’re great.
don’t forget to walk around the city! it’s beautiful and so pleasant to just take in that environment
What do you like to do? Museums? Art Galleries? Country Walks?
r/Edinburgh …
The botanic gardens are great, and free
Susan Boyle
Been a while since I was there, but I really enjoyed the historical/ghost tours. I’ve heard some are better than others, but I found City of the Dead and Mercat tours well worth it. Whether you’re a believer or a skeptic when it comes to the spooky stuff, the locations were interesting (especially the underground vaults) and the stories and the guides themselves were highly entertaining
The Surgeons’ Halls Museums at the university. Not free but only £9 for the most expensive ticket. It’s not for the faint of heart.
