I’m approaching the dating scene after a long hiatus and it looks like an absolute shitshow from where I’m standing. I’m reading the same old stuff over and over:

On the men’s side: Ghosting, zero matches, being used for food/drink/drugs/money, impossible-to-meet standards

On the women’s side: An abundance of options but a scarcity of basic human decency, constant concern for physical safety

On both sides: “I give up on dating” ,”dating apps suck”

Is this just a selection bias thing? The people doing well aren’t the people on forums like this? Or is this a fair summary of the situation? I’m honestly wondering if it wasn’t better to just dive in without visiting the subreddits/reading articles etc, at least I wouldn’t have any preconceived notions about what was to be expected.
