What does it mean when someone talks and does not allow you to answer?

I went to vist a potential bride at her parents home, each time the brides mother tried to ask us something about ourselves (me and my family), sometimes she talks over us and she guides the conversation. I don’t know if this is intentional, but its kinda annoying.

Is this a normal way of talking?
