Years ago on my first visit to the US a local served me this illusive drink which was a mix of regular American beer (I guess Bud or Miller) and Dr. Pepper soda/pop.

In Europe alcoholic mixes are very popular in summer and have local variations. Beer + lemonade = Radler, beer + cola = Diesel, wine + cola = Kalimotxo, beer + tomato juice = Michelada etc. You get the gist.

So I’m curious what (weird) local alcoholic mix drink do you know, what are they called and please let me know if any of you have a name for beer + Dr. Pepper!

  1. “Vomit”

When I was 19 i used to mix fireball whiskey + dr pepper. I wouldn’t recommend it. It didn’t have a name. It was just “fireball and dr pepper”.

  2. That might have been a hyper local drink based out of wherever you were visiting because I’ve never heard of it, and I’m pretty deep into the American beer scene. It might help if you told us where in the US you were.

  3. I think the local was messing with you. I’ve never heard of this rancid idea for a concoction.

  4. Is that a thing? I’ve never seen it.

The closest I’ve seen (and had) is the Colombian drink Refajo which is beer + ice + Colombiana soda. It’s tasty.

ETA – did the person who served you this drink offer to take you snipe hunting?

  5. I’ve never personally heard of this, so it may be a local/regional thing.

My personal favorite Summer mix is Bass Beer and Hard Cider, called a “Rattlesnake”

  6. Was this is Texas? Never heard of it but they sure do love Dr Pepper there.

  7. I’ve heard of a boilermaker with beer and amaretto that claims to *taste* like Doc Pepper. I’ve never encountered one in the wild though.

  8. Never had that drink. The weirdest drink I had was a mix of beer, tomato juice, and some kind of ground chilis or spices. It was horrible, and my stomach protested the rest of the night.

  9. A shandy is the term for lemonade and beer mixtures. I’ve never heard of anyone mixing coke with beer in the US though and I personally can’t stand it. It’s somehow grossly sweet and bitter at the same time.

  10. I have never heard of mixing beer and Dr Pepper together but it sounds gross.

A tasty (well, I remember it being tasty 18 years ago) drink combination borne out of desperation was mixing Jägermeister and cherry coke. Surprisingly drinkable!

  11. I’ve heard of other beer mixtures, like a shandy, but never beer mixed with any kind of soda. I am tempted to think that somebody was fucking with the European rather than think this is something that people actually drink anywhere in the US.

  12. Used to drink a flaming Dr. Pepper, but it doesn’t actually have Dr. Pepper in it. Shot of amaretto, top it with Bacardi 151, light it, and drop into a pint of beer and then chug it.

  13. We also call beer and tomato juice or Bloody Mary mix a michelada.

Beer and Lemonade would be a chandy.

Never heard of the rest, including beer and Dr. Pepper.

Bonus, if you add beer to a margarita, it has many names just based on what beer is used. So, it could be a micharita, or a coronarita, etc.

  14. Are you sure that’s what it was?

There is a type of drink you can make by dropping a shot of liquor into a beer that makes it taste remarkably like Dr. Pepper.

You sure your not getting mixed up?

    >A Dr Pepper shot is a bomb-style cocktail that tastes just like the classic cola beverage. It combines an American Lager beer with sweet amaretto liqueur and overproof rum for a tasty cocktail mixer.

  15. This sounds like a Texas thing given their love for DP but I’ve never heard of it.

  16. Liquor is for mixing into soda or maybe even a beer. Beer into soda, never seen it. Maybe like a corona and lemonade if you’re feeling squirrely could make some sense.

  17. I almost feel like you are mixed up

A Dr Pepper Shot consists of a cheap domestic with a shot of Amaretto dropped in; Chug it and it tastes exactly like Dr Pepper

  18. You sure it’s not beer with amaretto which just so happens to taste like Dr. Pepper?

  19. Then you were served a cement mixer – Baileys and lime juice?

    Sounds like a prank

  20. Currently here in Western PA, Iron City Beer is doing a collaboration with a local beverage called Turner’s Tea.

I’ve heard people say it tastes anywhere from an ash tray to a good shandy.

  21. I love a michelada – imo best versions are with zing zang Bloody Mary mix and some tapatio. Obviously tajin rim. I’ll drink clamato ones though.

Not beer, but I tried the Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream + Skrewball (or any PB whisky) mix that was trending in TikTok for a quick minute and it’s pretty good, def tastes like a PBJ. I prefer skrewball + a jam or Berry hard cider though, that’s the best PBJ drink imo.

  22. That sounds so vile. I’ve never heard of anyone doing that with beer. Whiskey, yes. Beer, no.

  23. I’m from California and have lived in both NorCal and SoCal and I have never heard of this. My quick google search says it’s called a Dr. Pepbeer according to the one and only website I can find to reference this. Seems like if you add amaretto there are a few other options.

  24. i like a lunchbox, which is a light beer mixed with amaretto and orange juice. i was 21 when i didnt know if i wanted a savory or sweet drink when i first tried it. my friend recommended it to me since she knew i was a newbie to bar culture.

  25. You might have it backward, there’s a shot which is called a Dr. Pepper. It’s half a beer + a shot
If amaretto (like Disaronno). It supposedly tastes like Dr. Pepper. Not aware of any drink combining soda and beer

  26. I’ve never heard of mixing beer with soda… I have a couple favorite mixed drinks though. Fireball and apple cider tastes AMAZING. And surprisingly chocolate coconut rum tastes really good with pineapple soda. These days though I mostly drink soju with ginger ale.

  27. I have some old friends who have long had a weird obsession with Dr. Pepper, going back to our high school days. I am not sure if this was, like a pre-social-media meme they caught wind of, or if it was actually unique to my friends. But I can guarantee you they would drink a beer-dr. pepper mix and honestly I’d be shocked if they hadn’t. Maybe I’ll ask them sometime.

  28. I’ve heard of people mixing liquor like whiskey or rum with soda/pop which is just a mixed drink bit I’ve never heard of mixing beer with Dr.Pepper so I’m thinking that is a local concoction.

  29. I’ve had a diesel in Germany before, they’re pretty good. A key difference I imagine is that theirs are made with a hefeweizen and ours would probably be a bud light. Unless it was made with a hefe it probably sucked.
