Does the title make sense? You know, like, when you’re out walking and someone’s coming the other way, so you give them a quick hi, but then you’re like “Hiiiiiii!” to the dog in a higher pitched tone of voice that also probably sounds “sweeter.” (Or maybe YOU’RE not like this, but I’M like this, and I always wonder if it comes off as rude, like I’m not being as attentive to the human as I am to the pet or baby or whatever.)

  1. To humans, I find this super-annoying when done with anyone other than literal babies. Kids and the elderly don’t require a high-pitched, slow paced voice to be understood.

With most dogs, it’s actually a good signal that relays “I’m not a threat.” I used to be an animal control officer… my cop colleagues made fun of me a lot because of that. However, I’ve never been bit.
