Today July 13th is National French Fries Day! What is your Top 5 of French Fries? What is your best sauce that goes with them?

  1. I believe that this nation should commit itself, to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of serving brown gravy (ala poutine) with every order of french fries.

  2. 1. Traditional
    1. Waffle
    1. Crinkle
    1. Curly
    1. Steak

    For dipping

    1. Ketchup
    1. Fry Sauce
    1. Ranch
    1. Salt and malt vinegar
    1. BBQ Sauce

  3. My favourite are the ones I fry at home and I only put malt vinegar on mine.

My second favourite are sweet potato fries with cinnamon on them.

  4. Fries

    1. Standard
    2. Curly
    3. Shoe String
    4. Steak
    5. Sweet potato

    And for sauce

    1. Ketchup
    2. Ranch
    3. BBQ
    4. Mustard
    5. Honey (with the sweet potato fries)

  5. McDonald’s fries are best which is no surprise. When you employ an army of food scientists for 70 years they tend to perfect the art.

If the fries are splotchy and orange, floured and battered with spices, keep them the fuck away from me. I want thin sliced potato sticks deep fried and coated with salt, not all that other crap.

I have been so unimpressed with poutine that I would prefer thousand island dressing, or even plain sour cream as a dip instead of brown gravy.

Sweet potato fries are a whole different beast, but they are wonderful.

  6. 1.) Sweet Potato

    2.) Waffle

    3.) Curly

    4.) Standard

    5.) Straws

    For dipping:

    1.) Cocktail Sauce

    2.) Ketchup

    3.) Aioli

    4.) Tarter Sauce

5.) Cocktail and Tarter sauce mixed together

  7. Seasoned fries are the best type of fry. I’m fine with traditional, steak, waffle, or crinkle, as long as they’re seasoned.

BBQ sauce is my favorite fry sauce, but I’ve been making homemade chick-fil-a sauce and I’ve been using that for everything lately, including fries.

  8. When I was a kid I went to this summer camp for a few years that often had these fries that were kind of like silver dollar-shaped and sized, and sort of thick and hollow. I absolutely LOVED them. I haven’t had them or even seen them since I was 12.

Otherwise, I won’t turn down curly fries or steak cut fries, or waffle fries, or sweet potato fries.

I will eat them with almost any sauce presented to me, with the possible exception of ranch dressing.

  9. Franks hot sauce on fries is 🔥

Tier 1 Regular, shoestring and curly
    Tier 2 waffle and crinkle
    Tier 3 sweet potato
    Tier 10 steak fries

  10. I’ll give a top 3 since that’s as deep as the list of fries I am fond of is:
    1. Buccees
    2. Jack in the Box
    3. Sonic

As for sauce, ketchup is the go to, but fine with BBQ, gravy, and lots of others.

  11. Twice-cooked Belgian fries are amazing. With the not-quite-garlic-aioli dipping sauce they use? Astonishingly good.

Seasoned curly fries? Idiot food, but tasty. Sauce is optional.

At restaurants, I usually ask for BBQ sauce, and then blend it 50/50 with catsup for saucing.

Chili-cheese fries gets a nod for drunk/stoned snacking. Poutine is drunk food; it’s great when you are, and it’s not when you’re not.

  12. I would say standard, curly, and waffle fries are my favorites. They are even better when they have a spicy seasoning.

Sauces? Good old ketchup is what I usually go for, but I also like some others such as sriracha sauce and aioli.

  13. 1) Shoe string (thin & crispy)
    2) Waffle fries
    3) traditional (McDonalds style)
    4) double fried fries (also known as crispy fries)
    5) curly fries

I do not like steak fries or potato wedges

Dipping sauce is 1) ketchup 2) DIY “Chick-Fil-A” sauce 3) garlic aioli

My favorite fast food fry is McDonalds. Least favorite Five Guys (soggy, limp and just soaked in grease)

  14. Top five fries:

    1. Shoestring
    2. Waffle
    3. Tots (don’t @ me)
    4. Curly
    5. Wedges

    Sauce:

Ketchup will always be number one. I’ll also enjoy a garlic aioli, chimichurri, or fry sauce. EDIT: or a Thai sweet chili sauce.

  15. I think Five Guys has the best friends and I don’t think it’s particularly close.

I prefer Shake Shack’s burgers but their fries are meh at best so if I’m going to clog arteries Five Guys is my choice.

  16. Not very American of me, but I love mayo on my fires. Best fries still have to be McDonald’s.

  17. Potato wedges.
    Steak fries.
    Crinkle cut.
    Thick cut straight.
    Curly

I don’t like sauces on my fries, not even ketchup. The only thing I ever dipped them in was a Frosty or a milkshake

  18. Honestly Poutine is my favorite way, followed by fries with curry ketchup

  19. 1. Crinkle
    2. Curly
    3. Old Bay seasoned
    4. Steak
    5. Regular

I don’t usually put sauce on my fries as I think a good fry doesn’t need it. However, give me some melted white cheddar and I will absolutely throw my previous statement out the window and chow down. And if I’m feeling nostalgic at the diner I’ll order a side of brown gravy for dipping fries as well.

  20. The best sauce is pindasaus, but this is extremely rare to find in the US. I’ve only seen it served in places that were trying to imitate Belgian and Dutch fries.

Not a sauce, but I never eat fries these days without Old Bay seasoning.

  21. I only have a top three:

    1. Garlic Parmesan fries
    2. Sweet potato fries
    3. Sysco fries with ketchup or blue cheese

…to be honest, I usually get the onion rings instead.

  22. Bojangles fries are just about the best in the world if you get them when they’re fresh. If you get a batch that’s old and starting to get cold and soggy they’re pretty bad.
