I’ve noticed that there seems to be a particular image that teenage boys and young adults seem to be going for these days. It even includes a sort of gormless walk a lot of the time.

Spent quite a bit of time on cross-country public transport recently and travelling between major cities and through people watching I’ve noticed so many young dudes with a shitey perm, dressed in a baggy hoodie, sports shorts and white socks, pulled up and a pair of trainers.

Look like they could just be nipping to the gym already dressed for it but last night I saw a few in a nightclub at 1am.

I get that trends are a thing but it seems specific, I wonder who they’re copying. Am I just becoming an old fart that gets annoyed by youth culture?

  1. Agree on the haircut. It looks ridiculous, you can’t picture someone working an actual job with their hair like that. Surely the girls their age (21 and younger) don’t find it attractive?

  2. Pretty sure ‘that’ haircut is called the ‘meet me at McDonald’s’. No joke. Been around for while – used to teach at a college and it seemed to come out of nowhere in about 2010 or so. The rest of the fashion with the skinny jeans and no socks is just bizarre.

  3. As a teenager I’m not sure everybody looks like him lol he’s not very popular these days pretty sure most people hate him

  4. Most likely, yes this is simply the inevitable effects of getting older and less connected to what is currently cool.

I’ll willing to bet you aren’t particularly into modern music like grime and UK Drill either! In fact, you might even think it is “noise” just like your parents did with the music of your time 😉

  5. Like other posters I needed to google him – you cannot be that far off youth culture as you knew who he was!

  6. it was a shit hairstyle in the 80s so god knows why it’s come back into style now

  7. Literally every teenager from every generation has a style-at-the-time. Yes you are an old fart.

  8. It’s more that Jake Paul is trying to emulate the style of a teenage boy, as those are his main market. He copies what is fashionable amongst 13/14 year old boys to make him seem relatable.

  9. Does reddit forget when they were teenagers doing stupid stuff or following trends?

  10. Yes, you are becoming an old fart who gets annoyed by youth culture. Jake Paul is a little cunt though.

  11. I’m pretty sure older generations felt the same with our haircuts, metal / rock / emo band t-shirts and whatever that was popular back then.

I, for one, applaud the Zoomer Gym resurgence. Go get that gainz kids, papa Zyyz would be proud.

  12. But you could say pretty much every 40 year old that works in an office is either a bald man, or uses way too much hair gel. It’s just fashion for that generation.

  13. The white socks pulled up thing is so weird. Why aren’t kids getting bullied for that anymore?
