A bit of context, I am from New Zealand so a lot of these processes are new to me.

I am part of the CIS and have submitted my tax returns (quite late but they are done) early this year for year ending 2021 and 2022.

I moved in 2021 and did not update my address with HMRC. I now cannot log into my account as it asks for verification, I do not have a UK Passport so cannot verify my access.

Basically I need to update my address to receive the letters and see if I am either owed a refund (my tax summaries looked likely I would be owed a refund even with the penalties for late submissions) or if I do owe further tax/penalties. I cannot log in online to update my address.

Whenever I try call them I get sent round and round to answer questions and they just say to do it online. Which I can’t!

Does anyone have any tips please?

  1. I managed this using the “Income Tax: General enquiries” number (0300 200 3300) as I couldn’t get past Government Gateway sign up verification, it turned out my postcode wasn’t correctly entered and once he’d tweaked it on their end, that fixed it.
