It feels stupid to linger on this but it’s really bothering me. While working my coworkers were talking about some drama they have been having with someone that does not do their job very well. We work in a kitchen so my brain says it’s a public conversation and anyone can join in. I even did at one point. But later on I tried asking who WE were talking about and they put their heads down and went back to work.

What did I do wrong? If I’m not supposed to know who you’re talking about then don’t talk about it in a public space. Was I not actually a part of the conversation? I don’t understand and it kind of hurt in the moment that they wouldn’t just be direct with me.

I’m sorry if the formatting is garbage.

You don’t see how it’s an awkward situation? You can’t talk shit about someone without knowing who is it. They assumed you knew.
