To me meatloaf goes with mashed potatoes.
We never had rice growing up so it doesn’t hit the same comfort food spot.
Mashed potatoes is my first thought but I’m not a meatloaf person tbh.
Rice would come after potatoes for me, whether mashed, baked, or whatever. Def not the first choice.
try mashed potatoes and gravy instead
Probably. Rice is a starch, as are mashed potatoes which normally get paired with meatloaf.
Meatloaf, a side of rice and grilled asparagus.
Porcupine meatballs. Fire.
Meatloaf goes with mashed potatoes and a vegetable side or two, I can’t say i’ve ever even consider pairing it with rice.
It’d be fine, most people prefer mashed potatoes though.
Fry with Butter ‘n add some Cheese
Mashed potatoes are better. Gravy goes on mashed potatoes and meatloaf. The only gravy that goes on rice is CoCo Curry.
I mean, it’s probably edible together and most likely wouldn’t be gross. Just wouldn’t be my first choice
I think flavored rice would work well.
I make it with Au Gratin potatoes
Go for it.
Meatloaf and rice is delicious.
Ohhh cheesy rice…and meatloaf
Never thought about that until now
Does sound good. In the right mindset, I’ll put any two random foods together. I cut up a bagel, did not toast it, and put a bunch of jalapeno sauce on it and it was goodx
It’d be fine.
I think I’ve even had meatloaf with rice in it before
I’ve had rice with meatballs before and that works well
With? Taste wise, yes. Texture wise, no. I can’t really explain why this is my perception.
Rice incorporated into meatloaf? Definitely, if they can each maintain their texture.
Meatloaf with mashed potatoes works so well because the mashed potatoes work as a really thick sauce, coating, or bedding and the texture doesn’t conflict.
Yes.
We often do meatloaf over rice… but we don’t do the tomato/bbq sauce. We do brown gravy after it’s cooked.
I definitely think meatloaf goes nicely with rice.
As you can see, mashed potatoes are the consensus. However, a good rice pilaf would hit the spot too.
Mashed potatoes is definitely the move but little bit of rice and tomatoes or hoppin John never hurt nobody
Mashed potatoes is probably more common, but yes. Rice works fine with it.
It’s more appropriate pairing would be potatoes.
Mashed or baked, typically.
Although, in a pinch, and carb will do.
Rice, pasta, or bread (as a meatloaf sandwich) are all acceptable in lieu of potatoes
It’s good. We basically ate rice with everything when I was growing up
Rice sounds good. I like meatloaf with stuffing, corn and gravy
Meatloaf with rice. 4/7. Thank you for the suggestion.
Rice has too much filler. Potatoes usually
Mashed potatoes and/or mac and cheese is best. Rice seems to be a different take with meatloaf.
You do you.
I see alot of people say mashed potatoes. I already, but we always have it with green beans as well.
It wouldn’t be bad but mashed potatoes is the classic, especially with a little gravy.
Also you might want some kind of spiced rice rather than just plain white rice. A slab of good meatloaf over plain white rice doesn’t sound great.
Anytime I make meatloaf, I make rice for myself because I like it better than the Mac and cheese that my husband and kids want to have with it.
Sometimes it has rice in it, so I don’t see how having rice with it would be bad.
My family frequently had meatloaf and rice. Rice, because my father grew up in Hawaii. We also tended to put ketchup on the meatloaf instead of gravy. We also usually put Kikkoman soy sauce on the rice.
1. Mashed potato
3. Mac n cheese
As others have said rice is more commonly put in the Meatloaf.
The key to good meatloaf is remembering that it is a way to extend meat. Ideally it should contain as much other stuff as possible. Typically this includes a panade (breadcrumbs soaked in milk) but rice can be used instead.
now this might be an unpopular opinion and there is a good chance I get downvoted for it
but NOTHING goes well with meatloaf because Meatloaf SUCKS
Yes but risotto or polenta sound better.
It’s done here. Lots of dishes with rice instead of potatoes.
Meatloaf & rice, for sure. But, only if you have a tomato based sauce on your meatloaf. That, with some green beans and a biscuit, used to be a staple in my house.
Try these together:

Yeah, it would go quite nicely if you prefer that to the traditional mashed potatoes.
Mashies
Buttered egg noodles and a side of steamed carrots
Yes but I’m Asian-American so we actually ate this meal pretty regularly growing up. Although I would go with mac and cheese as my preferred side.
