  1. Hey guys, I need your help. My mom is having severe back problems at the moment, and I would like to leave my kindle to her for reading. Our reading tastes are very different, though, so I would like to ask you for recommendations. Here are the criteria.

*Absolute no-go is too many characters and long names. She absolutely can’t keep them straight.

    *Shouldn’t be too long.

*No fantasy, science fiction. She likes realistic stuff.

*Memoirs and short stories are very welcome as well.

    Thank you!

The tax on fuel tripled overnight. People are absolutely livid (understandably). I don’t know. It is bad.

  2. Do you think any Disney songs are meant to be sung in a language other than English? [Ice Workers’ Song](https://youtu.be/C9kaNBgQEQQ) has attracted alot of gulag memes over the last few years from sounding like what non Russians think is from a gulag in Siberia.

  3. People have been talking fanfics here this summer. I’ll give writing one a go here:

It is the year 2032. For almost 10 years our great leader has sat in a life support room. Our once great nation is finally starting to falter against the endless tide of Banderites, Gay Pride parades, and internal treason. How did we find ourselves in this position?

In a distant age long forgotten, our people, after winning an epic war, embarked on decades of technological progress and infrastructure building. This lost age of technology saw many wonders created. Our ancestors were the first ones to reach the stars, the first to send probes to other planets, the largest and most advanced space station was ours. They prospered as the economy boomed and grew rich. This era also saw the creation of many advanced weapon systems. Supersonic intercontinental bombers, vast fleets of tanks, and enough missiles to wipe our enemies from the Earth. The knowledge and ability to produce many of these wonders are now long forgotten, never to be relearned.

The lost age of technology came to an end when a traitor appeared at the very top of our political system. He, tempted and corrupted by the decadence, betrayed us all and sold us to the Great Enemy, the West. Worst of all the allied “peoples” of our great union turned on us in our moment of greatest weakness and broke away. They slaughtered and kicked out countless numbers of our people. The 10 years after the collapse were known as the age of strife. Our nation was shattered and torn apart by thug, secessionists, and degenerate sell outs.

Just as all hope was thought lost, a great man appeared. President Putin reigned in the criminals, crushed the secessionists, and prepared for a great crusade of reconquest that saw our prosperity and glory restored for a time. We crushed Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine in 2014. The crowning step to this crusade was the invasion of Ukraine of 2022. Putin almost vanquished the Great Enemy until ~~Warmaster~~ Prigozhin, one of his most favored generals, was corrupted by the West. He turned on our great leader and lead a revolt that tore the federation apart. In Moscow, Putin faced his former best friend and did battle with him. Despite being wounded and with a heavy heart he struck Prigozhin down. Now we’ve been at endless war for 10 years…the end is nigh.

  4. A few months ago I went on a road trip with a Dream Theater fan who, like all Dream Theater fans, seems to be very intent on spreading the Dream Theater Gospel to anyone who wishes to listen (as well as to anyone who doesn’t…). After trying to convince me that I should absolutely adore Dream Theater given that I’m both a fan of Tool and Porcupine Tree (even though they don’t really sound like either), and after playing a few songs to me in the car to try and get me to join his cause, he turns round to me and, or of nowhere, says “I’ve got two tickets to see Dream Theater baby, come with me July, don’t say maybe”. Well anyway, turns out later that he *didn’t* have two tickets, he only had one ticket for himself and he wanted me to buy a ticket as well so he could have some company (and maybe dodging the traffic on the way back by using the carpool lane (in LA they have special lanes that you can only use if you have more than one person in your car) might have been part of it as well. And also, like, not being alone in the middle of the night as a person of colour in the middle of South Central LA). Well, ok, sounds exactly like the kind of thing I should have been into aged 14, so why not buy a ticket, I thought to myself, I’ll have a good time.

Anyway, now that I’m paying good money to see them, I decided to spend this evening trying to mug up on my Dream Theater knowledge by listening to all of their greatest hits. Meh, nothing really connects with me at all, they just feel like a cross between Metallica and every rock band from the 90s/00s ever. I mean, I wouldn’t call them *bad* per se, they just seem so…*derivative*. Am I just listening to the wrong stuff? Or do I just have to grow into them? Are they better live?

  5. Puf, I am stuck with my prompts again. I am trying to write something with a joyous mood. I am usually super chipper, but I can’t come up with anything 😑 I usually use an auxiliary prompt from the Latin Word of the Day, but it didn’t help so much, either.

What is joyous? A success? Party? Sunrise?
