On here lots of people ask how to make friends as an adult and the advice is to join clubs/pursue hobbies

Is there any way to join an existing friend group rather than making individual friends?

  1. I’d say that people who associate regularly to take part in a shared hobby *are* likely already a friend group.

That said, the larger the club/group, the more likely you are to run into cliques or individuals who have no interest in being friends, so don’t take it the wrong way if you get rejected.

  2. I gotta be honest, adults generally start by making an individual friend. And then this can EXTEND to becoming/forming part of a friend group.

If you just try to join a ‘friend group’ (sort of like highschool or college friend groups) you will never truly have a friend and will be peripheral to things.

So like Sharky described, you could be part of a loose network of people who look like a friend group, but it won’t really be one in a true sense.
