Maybe describe location by saying “neighbouring XYZ to the south, or X part of Y continent etc..”. Am curious because I know we’re not too well known 🙂

Edit: Some thought I was going for the “bad geography” stereotype. That wasn’t my intent (sorry if I came off like that), it was more being curious about how familiar people are with my country, considering it’s so small and has a flag that looks like another Slavic country, and a name that sounds like yet another Slavic country 😀

So it was wholesome to find out that it’s being taught in geography classes around the world. 🤩

  1. Without looking at a map…in the neighborhood of the former Yugoslavia….borders Austria, Croatia and…possibly some other countries.

Or am I flipping Slovenia and Croatia? No! Because I know where Split is.

  2. Balkans, couldn’t say exactly what countries it borders but somewhere near Croatia, Bulgaria, etc.

  3. Slovenia is located between Italy, Austria, and Croatia… and maybe Hungary is in there? Anyway yes I know where it is.

  4. Nextdoor to Fastvenia.

Seriously, though, I know it borders Serbia or another Slavic country, but no more than that. Dunno if it’s landlocked or not.

Just looked it up. Was off a little bit. Didn’t realize it bordered the countries starting with “A” and “I.”

  5. I’ve been there, and my last name is Slovenian, so I have a pretty good idea where you guys are

  6. On the Adriatic Sea, north of Bosnia is my guess. After looking you up, I guess I wasn’t far wrong. You people need to buy Trieste from the Austrians or something. Trade some land. A big port would do wonders for your economy.

  7. Right next to Croatia across the sea from Italy, right? I’m of Slovenian and Croatian heritage so if that’s wrong, I’m embarrassed, and I apologize haha.

  8. Slovenia borders Italy and Croatia and I think Hungary. Slovenia also has a very small coastline on the Adriatic Sea.

  9. Believe it or not, I remember learning where it was in a 7th grade geography class (about 13 years old). It’s kinda wedged between Italy, Austria, and either Croatia or Bosnia (without looking I can’t remember which one wraps around the other there in the former Yugoslavia area).

  10. Why would I need to guess?

It’s between Croatia, Austria, Italy and Hungary. Capital is Ljubljana. Bled and Piran look like awesome places. I’d love to get there one day.

  11. I recently got a perfect score on Sporcle Countries of the World, so I’m just gonna use this post to brag about it.

op, many Americans will know where your country is & also we have maps

  12. I’ve been to Slovenia, so I know it is south of Austria, north of Croatia, and east of Italy. It also has a small coastline on the Adriatic, and contains a part of the Alps.

  13. Not sure exactly where it is. But using deductive reasoning, I know it’s part of the old Yugoslavia. I know it’s not in the southern part of the old Yugoslavia. I know where Croatia Serbia and Bosnia are. So that would put it in the northern part of the old Yugoslavia … near Austria and maybe Italy?????

  14. Some Americans might be more aware of Slovenia than you might think. On the one hand, many academics and leftleaning intellectuals are familiar with Žižek and his followers, on the other, due to it being Melania Trump’s birthplace.

  15. Next to Italy Austria and Croatia. I was there in April, visited Postojna, Predjama and Bled Lake. Ljubljana was quite pleasant. Had some hotdogsm ike dish and bought a bunch of hand blown glass figures for work freinds.

  16. I would assume it used to be part of the former Yugoslavia? I really don’t know lmao.

  17. Hey, thank you for your interest in us, I also have a deep appreciation for your country. To be totally honest, the idea that Americans don’t know anything beyond our borders is an annoying stereotype.

  18. Thought I had the answer nailed…then realized I was confusing Slovenia with Slovakia. Sorry!!!!!
