It used to be CBGBs now it is either The Empty Bottle in Chicago, The Middle East in Boston, or the Bowery Ballroom in NYC.
Fuck the large venues.
If you really want to get into it the Liars Club in Chicago is the greatest venue ever but only back in the mid 2000s when it was the coolest and played local Chicago punk acts on the regular.
Your car and any stretch of glorious American highway.
The Ryman in Nashville gets my vote. I’ve never heard music sound that good.
It sounds like the Sphere in Las Vegas may end up with that honor, but it remains to be seen. We shall find out when it opens.

I’m going to see Goo Goo Dolls there in a week then The Offspring and Sum 41 a month after that.
The Gorge Amphitheater has to be up there
Auditorium Theatre in Chicago.
Only because I have been to some truly awesome shows there, The Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ.
It’s hard for me to call anything with a capacity more than ~1000 as a really great venue.
I love the Tabernacle in Atlanta.
