What’s your favorite place in the Deep South?

  1. It is cheating to say Savannah?

For other places, probably Atlanta mainly because of attractions like Georgia Aquairum and Zoo Atlanta. Also a big fan of Charleston, love their downtown and their aquarium.

  2. Honestly, there’s very few places in the Deep South I’ve been that I don’t like.

But still, at brunch, in New Orleans, not even close.

Second place I’m giving collectively to every SEC stadium on gameday.

  3. It’s a tourist trap I haven’t been to since I was a kid, but I’ve always gotten a little kick out of the fact that [Helen, Georgia](https://helenga.org/) actually exists.

In a beautiful and somewhat remote area of mountainous northern Georgia, a declining logging town decided to just, like, *become* an Alpine Bavarian village. They leaned into the gimmick so successfully that they ended up building out a really (and still?) successful hub for all kinds of outdoorsy and family friendly activities. I remember 10-year-old me having a lot of fun tubing down the river, panning for gold, begging for more of the exotic chocolate that was everywhere…

  4. For visiting? Hard to beat New Orleans for a day or two trip. Atlanta too if you go to the Aquarium. They have two whale sharks and a shitload of belugas. Nashville for a concert in the Schermerhorn or at the Bridgestone. Then for a night out on Broadway. At the right time of the year you can get let down by the Preds or the Titans.

  5. Coastal South Carolina or Atlanta if those count as deep.

If you want to get truly deep then around Fairhope, AL or Baton Rouge, LA. I also have a lot of love for Camp RM Cooper in SC. I think that counts as deep.

  6. Savannah is a drop dead gorgeous town! Wouldn’t mind visiting her again.

  7. Charleston, ~~NC~~ SC

    Savannah, GA

    New Orleans, LA

They all have similar feels and are fantastic food cities.

  8. Savannah ga, NOLA, North Carolina coast line, Edisto Island in Sc, Middle Tennessee, Chattanooga Tennessee (great aquarium, cool shows), Memphis is ok too but that’s teetering on the brink, it’s great for bbq and music, Boone NC down to Brevard is nice also, then on down to north east Georgia all are great for Appalachian fly fishing . They’re not monster trout like out west in Colorado but the Brookies you’ll land spook way easier and to me; are just more fun to catch.

  9. Not American, but there’s a special place in my heart for Magnolia Springs in Alabama. Visited on my honeymoon after reading Fannie Flag’s Red Bird Christmas which is set there and adored it. Stayed at the cutest B & B with multi course breakfasts where we had a singalong on the deck with some other guests. Fireflies, red cardinals, just absolutely beautiful with oaks reaching all the way over the roads with Spanish moss. Ridiculously attractive!

  10. The small college towns on football gamedays in the fall is a pretty incredible experience. Fall is the most comfortable time of year to visit the Deep South, too.

  11. To live in? Georgia cause it’s my home.

Visit? Chattanooga, TN cause the aquarium there hits way above its class and always has.

  12. Savannah, GA

    Gulf Shores, AL

    Great Smoky Mountains

Any college campus on game day, except Bama

  13. I agree with much of what I’m seeing here.

I also likes Tybee Island and Athens, Georgia .

  14. Slidell, Louisiana. Spent my summers there with my grandparents, god do I miss them. They taught me so much about life, work, love and family. Now in heaven I like to think that they still do.

Fishing, sailing, and fucking around with the fire ants with my cousins were some of my favorite childhood memories

  15. All of it 😂 Every southern state I’ve lived or visited is charming and wonderful in its own way
