What’s the most you’ve lost because you didn’t hit the “save” button?

1. An entire assignment once. I just finished and lost every trace of it. So many late nights, wasted.

   I just decided to not do the assignment and I didn’t GAF.

   It’s not that I didn’t save but that I didn’t back it up

2. My worst habit is that I always work over old files. So hitting save without renaming the file actually backfires. It overwrites the original project and that’s lost forever. Might not seem like a huge deal losing something old. But in my profession everything needs to exist because reorders and de-archiving happens all the time.

3. I lost about five hours of typing a research paper for Geology. In a video game I think the most I’ve lost was like three hours

4. I used to do a lot of digital illustrating but I’d get so into it that sometimes an hour or two would pass and I didn’t bother saving it. I only realized how long it had been until after the program crashed and I had to load up the file and it started me off with where I was two hours ago. Greta now I get to do that boring part or that one amazing bit I admittedly kinda fluked it the first time all over again!

   Same with rendering too. The 3D stuff has to be rendered once it’s complete and this sometimes took multiple *days*. I didn’t think until after I lost like, a two day long render because of a crash that I should have paused it and saved what had rendered so far.

5. I played Final Fantasy 8 for a few weeks without a save card. Means each day I would try to get further and be unable to save.

6. One night I came home drunk from a party and thought I should play a video game. I had two different save files for different morality play-throughs of good and evil. I accidently saved over the evil file which more work had gone into.

7. One time I was really into crypto. The scary kind: Pancakeswap, Uniswap etc.

   So I bought 1k worth of a stupid token. But there where only about 200 people who’ve invested in that token. So this graph changed every second, I had a total of 5 seconds of profit. My 1k turned into 72k for 3 seconds. I didn’t sell, 6 seconds later it was all gone.

   Token is dead now, I’m never getting into crypto again. I was in a telegram group and people lost their life savings, one dude invested his kids their college funds 🤦 Lost it on the most stupid thing ever.

8. I was working on a digital drawing for about 3 days, and when I went to open krita, it was just gone. No autosave, and I didn’t think to save a .kra file. It was absolutely awful because I was actually loving it so far, especially because I was trying something new.

9. I spent 2 hours on writing a report for work and when i forgot to copy the entire thing before saving it and when I hit save it, for some reason the thing we used to write reports would delete the report on rare occasions when you hit the save button so as a precaution we where taught to copy the entire report before hitting save so in the event it happened you could just paste the report back and try again. Go figure the 1 time I forgot to copy the report is the time it decided to delete it

10. Hours of progress (2 gym defeats and a shiny catch) in pokemon because my gameboy froze.
