Either I’m really dumb at this ripe age or there’s no ‘painless’ way to get my wardrobe full. What do you do when it’s time to get new clothes? Do you buy specific brands/shop at concrete stores? What’s your routine?

  1. If you own any item of clothing that fits you perfectly, get the same size from the same brand

Unfortunately you should always try everything on. Take the time to do it properly. Everybody looks better when they’re wearing the right size, no matter what it is

I mostly use department stores and wait for sales. I don’t like smaller places because you get bugged by the staff. There are a couple of places near here I will shop at that are smaller, though, because they have stuff I like for cheap

  2. Go to store –> look for clothes that look nice –> try them on to see whether they fit –> buy clothes that look nice and fit.

  3. Usually I check some manly man fashion. There are some good content creators on this subject. Then I select a few looks that I find interesting and then go shopping looking for clothes that resembles it.

  4. I start at the clearance section and move my way up in price till I find something that looks good.

  5. Look for good shit on clearance at my favorite brands/outlets, check my credit cards for points deals to stack.

  6. I mostly buy my clothes online, as long as I own something from that brand I usually know what size is going to fit me best. Shoes are really the only thing I prefer to try on first before buying

  7. I generally buy online, I set a budget and wait for summer/winter sales. If you’re good at keep steadily your body in shape I recommend to buy winter clothes during summer, they’re cheaper and you’ll see the price of the product you bought will skyrocket between November and December.

  8. Ideally you want to have a capsule wardrobe. This is the basic parts of an outfit that you can mix and match together to create various outfits. [I really like Real Men Real Style’s guide on how to do this](https://www.realmenrealstyle.com/create-capsule-wardrobe/).

Basically you need the fundamental pieces of clothing in the fundamental colors. When I need new clothes I look for what is missing from my capsule wardrobe and what needs replacing.

I personally like to have themes I can comfortably evoke with my wardrobe. A the moment I’ve really got three main ones. I’ve a neo-western theme I can hit, a Top Gun style theme, and a bit more of a modern preppy style theme. No one item is restricted to one theme (except my cowboy hat). Clothes should be versatile. Got a suit jacket or sports coat? Throw on a white tshirt and a zip up hoodie then put the jacket on over it. That white t shirt can then be paired with jeans and sneakers for a very classic style look. The jeans can then be put with boots and a nice shirt for a neo-western look. All theses clothes came from the capsule wardrobe and can hit different themes.

I will note this doesn’t work for everyone. It can be a very regimented way of doing style, and if your more of a go with the flow type it probably isn’t for you but if you like the regimental way it works but don’t want a strict personal uniform capsule wardrobes are fantastic!
