I realise it depends based on your insurance coverage but what do you find most people pay out of pocket?

Context: I’m in Australia and some clinics used to be free, but are now charging us for a 10 minute appointment

  1. I’ve done it over the phone once and over skype once and both times it was free. I have a Cigna policy.

  2. Under my plan (GEHA) I get unlimited Telehealth visits for free. Why are they starting to charge?

  3. I’ve paid twice and those were for pre-surgery screenings (things about general health, what you can/can’t do in the hours preceding the surgery, make sure to get a Covid test done, etc). I’m pretty sure each one was a $25 co-pay, so what the full charge was, I haven’t a clue.

  4. I think in my case Teladoc has mostly been included in my insurance plan or perhaps a modest fee of like $25.

I have also used third-party services like Hims a bit that weren’t included in my insurance, so that was more expensive.

  5. If I do the PPO plan at my work, they are free. With the HSA plan (cheaper plan, where you get to save money for future medical expenses, but stuff costs more out of pocket), they cost me $11.

  6. Pretty certain remote doctors visits are the same as regular for me. It just means I might get slightly different appointment times to choose from and (obviously) not have to go to a physical office.

I personally do not like the telehealth model and want to be able to clearly and effectively communicate with my provider. I’ve had physicians feel something wrong with me during an examination and have been hospitalized based on a physical, hands-on examination. That can’t be replicated over Skype.

  7. Haven’t done any telehealth appointments as of recent, but when I was in uni, each student had a set amount of meetings plus the intake appointment completely free

  8. $50 for me as a standard rate, but I’ve only ever used it for infections and similar issues.

  9. I paid nothing for the telehealth appointment that I had in the last month or two ago. It was entirely covered.

  10. Free. If you don’t consider the thousands and thousands I have to pay for insurance every year.

  11. Seeing my primary, I don’t pay anything, just like when I see him in person

When I see my ADHD specialist, it’s $20.

  12. Through my insurance I pay a standard $30 copay for any appointment regardless if it is telehealth or in-person.

Since you asked about out-of-pocket costs, I recently called a clinic that is out of my insurance network, and it will be about $205ish for a telehealth appointment.

  13. It’s free for me. A well-check is free as well. An urgent care visit is a 25 dollar co-pay , and 100 dollars for an emergency room visit.

  14. I had one the other day and it was $0

ETA I have no idea how much I actually pay for insurance but it’s negligible. Maybe like $30 a month? Maybe $70? I have no idea, I never look at my pay stubs. I get unlimited telehealth/virtual/phone visits and I don’t have any co-pay for visits or labs AFAIK, unless it’s a specialist.

  15. All I have done is call about easily resolved issues. It’s always been free with my insurance

  16. Sheesh from some other threads one might assume it would be thousands of dollars just to talk to a doctor for some antibiotics in USA. Yet here we are telehealth free, free, $11, free, $25, free, etc.

  17. I pay $10 for doctor visits, but video/phone appointments have been $0 out of pocket.

  18. I’ve never done telehealth, but an office visit is $25 (except yearly checkup, that’s free) so I assume it would be no more than that.

  19. Through my insurance, I end up being billed about $60 for a telehealth appointment. An in-person with my doctor would be the same, but it’s more convenient to do it via video or the phone so I usually opt for that unless he really needs to see me.

  20. $50. They don’t accept any insurance at all either at my local hospital. No one is covered.

  21. Under my insurance they’re free, and they’re REALLY pushing them-I get emails all the time from my provider about them, listing all the different ways I can use telehealth.

It’s clear they’re trying to get more people to use them instead of in-person visits, but I still far prefer actually being in the same room with my doctor.

  22. For our plan it’s, I believe, 60$ a visit. We are on a deductible based plan and have to pay 100% of all medical appointments that are not considered preventative (yearly physical, etc) up to our deductible and then 20% up to our out of pocket max. If we hit our out of pocket everything is covered at 100%. We basically pay something like 400$ a month for the privilege to pay 100% of all healthcare needed when sick or injured. My daughter got a UTI with concerning presentation and it cost 1500$. I fucking hate healthcare in this country. And the thing is my husband works for a large corporation, you would think their benefits were better. I recently took a entry level fast food position to contribute while I figure out what to do with my life and was talking to a coworker and insurance though the company is around 300ish a month for a family but everything is covered at 100% and I’m like fuck I may just stick around for the benifits lmao.

  23. Idk what telehealth is, but my co pays are as follows:

    Urgent care: $20
    Dr visit: $20
    ER: $150
    Spec: $40

  24. It depends on the type of appointment, but it usually follows the standard for the same appointment in the office. 80 for a specialist
