I am looking for a place to rent with my husband – anywhere in the UK, as we both work remotely.

We want to live in a place without a carpet, but it is almost impossible to find a place without one.

I wonder if people more experience could give us a tip how to narrow down the search by such feature?

Thank you!

  1. Eh, think your best bet is to look for more premium properties as these usually have hardwood floors (or sometimes tiled). You can maybe use negative search words by adding “-carpet” but really depends if your property website supports it. I think you’ll just have to do manual reviews

  2. I rented a place in Cardiff for eight years carpetless. Underfloor heating FTW!

  3. Talk to letting agents and ask if they have anything meeting your requirements? But it’s a bit of a letter’s market and letting agents are often useless and lazy so it might well not work.

  4. A lot of rental places only allow laminate flooring on the ground floor, if at all because of noise issues for other tenants. This is not an unusual rule whether private, housing association or council.
