I’ve always wanted to buy a copper spear to bring with me in places I think might be dangerous in public. I would have it covered of course, and I would at the very least see if I was even competent with one before trying bringing it out.

  1. With the caveat that we are not your lawyer, it’s hard for me to imagine a strong legal distinction between a spear and a knife vis a vis public carry

  2. Depends on which state your were in.

I don’t think there is legal precedent on spears.

If swords are legal in your state I would assume spears are as well.

Usually spear hunting us illegal tho

  3. It’ll depend on the state, but it would most likely fall under whatever the laws governing knives. In Colorado blades of any length are legal to carry openly, but must be shorter than 3 1/2 inches if concealed. So you could openly carry your spear head in Colorado, you could even shaft it.

  4. Don’t carry a spear around with you in public. Anyone who encourages you to do so is not your friend.

  5. Kinda, but there are a lot of knife laws and they vary greatly by state and city. It’s very complicated. First thing to check would be of there are any laws that pertain to the blade of it – length or the fact it has a cutting edge on both sides (they would probably try to classify it as a dagger. IANAL so I don’t know

  6. Are they covered? Yes. Are there locales that violate your 2A rights by banning them? Probably.

Is a copper spear an effective self-defense weapon? Doubtful.

If you’re going somewhere you think you might need a weapon, rethink your plans.

  7. If you carry a spear in a dangerous neighborhood, you are probably going to be targeted more rather than less just for being odd.

  8. Yes, probably. But in a lot of places “brandishing” is a crime.

Also, you’ll look like an idiot.

  9. The word “Arms” in the 2nd Amendments “The Right to Bear Arms Shall Not Be Infringed” means “Armaments” which translates to Military Equipment and Power

In layman’s terms it means->Whatever the Military has, I can have

And I’m sure the Military had spearheads decades ago so yes spearheads (as well as any other form of Weaponry except for Nukes) are covered and protected by the 2nd Amendment
