Like it would probably look silly to wear that to a bar in DC, but it was a pretty normal thing to see in Iowa and Nebraska. I imagine the rural mountain west, like Wyoming and Montana, would be where they’re most common. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more normal in Indiana or even Virginia (outside NOVA) than it is in DC.

  1. In New England it would stand out.

We have a shit ton of small farms but the “cowboy look” just isn’t how it goes up here.

Work boots, carhartts, Grundens, and random hand me down clothing is our farmer and rancher look.

  2. A country music concert, anywhere in ranch/farm country, most cities in the southwest/Rockies/Great Plains.

  3. Country bar. You know, that place that does line dancing and will sometimes play late 90s hip hop mixed with country songs. I would think you could find one in just about every state.

  4. when I was in high school in northern California, we had a whole group of kids known by everyone else as the hicks. They all wore boots, wranglers, button up shirts, and cowboy hats. They were involved in FFA and many of them were from farming families (mostly dairy farms). Anyway, it wasn’t odd at all.

I also see this look on Mexican dudes pretty often.

  5. People are saying Texas, but it would absolutely look silly in most of Texas.

Boots are not uncommon as a footwear you can wear with jeans.

But a cowboy hat is pretty much just workwear. If you were wearing one to go to the grocery store, you would look like a really dorky tourist.

  6. Compton, California. Yes THAT Compton, and I am not kidding. Dudes ride horses there.

  7. Florida! Wear anything or nothing at all. No one will care. The weird and strange become local celebrities. Cowboy hats and boots wouldn’t even really stand out as being weird enough to notice.

  8. It’s even fine in NoVA in certain bars. NoVA has a big Central American population and the outfits at those clubs…

Also just because NoVA isn’t Montgomery, Alabama or whatever doesn’t make it Connecticut. I’ve given up, it’s not the South anymore but it’s not like the South is so very far away.

  9. You can wear boots anywhere, as long as you don’t tuck your pants into them. They don’t look too dissimilar to Chelsea boots. Plus they are in style, I saw lots of Europeans wearing them last time I was there. Just make sure they aren’t square toes or pointed toes

Hats can only be pulled off by certain people. You have to either be an actual cowboy or be just be cool enough to confidently rock it with style

  10. Pretty much anywhere rural, especially in the west.

But, I’m biased. My family literally used to operate a local rodeo, and my sisters were barrel racers. I have cousins literally going to college to be bull riders. The odds of me seeing people in boots and cowboy hats is significantly higher than the norm.

  11. Try Nashville, it’s country music central and every clothing store sells that

  12. In Texas you would be fine buddy! Same in New Mexico, Montana, Arizona, and Louisiana!

  13. Iowa and Nebraska arent really “cowboy” land. Maybe western Nebraska but not the rest of the state.

It may sound silly but a lot of ppl in Texas genuinely dress like that.

  14. I’ve lived all over the country and see them most frequently in Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, and Texas. Utah is up there too but depends where you are in the state.

  15. I live in NOVA and have lived in DC and Maryland. I don’t recall ever seeing anyone with a cowboy hat, but I think it would be fine. The worst thing that would happen is that some people might think you’re a tourist.

  16. I wouldn’t look twice a guy wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat anywhere outside of a very formal event (if everyone else is wearing a suit and tie).

Anywhere you can wear a t-shirt and jeans, cowboy boots and hat are totally acceptable.

I’m from Texas and live in Colorado now.
