I have this roommate. He is a friendly and social guy but when I’m in a discussion with him he can be very direct and confrontational, which made me hisistant to speak with him. Even when I try to avoid controversial topics he is making statements which I don’t support. I ask questions and avoid direct confrontation. As written in the book How to make friends and influence people.

Personally I would never criticize and confront a person in a sense where he/she will lose face. But how to deal with people who makes you losing face?

  1. Losing face is a concept that is rooted in a cultural belief that the group is more important than the individual. Drop the concept that other people care about you and ‘face’ no-longer has much meaning
