If you OWN a tux, are you excited, neutral, or dreading events that require wearing it?

Assuming rentals are different, but feel free to tell me I’m wrong.

  1. Neutral. It means I have to go to some event. Which is usually unpleasant on some level.

  2. Neutral. I wear my tux once or twice per year. The event will be pricey relative to its fun (bad), but my wife will be happy (good).

  3. I love my tux. I spent quite a bit on it and it has little custom touches (wedding date embroidered in the jacket) so I love having the opportunity to wear it

  4. Nope. I hate anything formal, but I wear it to humor my wife when we go to work events (she works at a hospital so lots of fundraisers).

  5. you generally wear a tux to a celebratory event so it’s generally a positive experience. the only downside is that I wear it infrequently and every time I put it on I am reminded that I am not the same size I am as when I bought it

  6. I own one, I bought it when Lord and Taylor was going out of business. Was something ridiculously overpriced like $1800 marked down to just $90.

But that’s not the special part of it. I’m over 6’5 so finding anything that fits my lengthy body is rare. Especially in department stores. So for me to find an entire tux? Coat & pants!! In a gutted store days away for shutting dow.n?! That’s like me pulling the sword in the stone out. Unicorn.

Further, I was in that store because I was looking for an outfit to propose to my girl. She thought we were shopping for a special night out.

After I proposed, I ended up wearing it for my wedding. Figured why not? Saved myself a rental and money. Now I’m reminded of those two nights any time I get to wear, it so I’m generally excited for it.

  7. I own a tux and love having an occasion to wear it. It usually includes some dancing, and the ladies always dress well to those events.

  8. Yes. Still own one.

Used to attend fancy dinners, military funerals, weddings and so on. They required wearing a tux or business suits. Even some cruise ships required it for their up scale dinners venues. I am not sure about Las Vegas restaurants these days. I carry one with me just in case.

I not worn mine out for at least a decade so maybe places are not requiring them. Maybe they only require casual business attire.

May need the tux if my daughter gets married since she into formal events.

  9. I would love to know why anyone would buy a tux in the first place and where they are wearing it now that they have it. Are you all in the same barbershop quartet? Did I stumble into some sort of Downton Abbey roleplay? Did y’all get married to a princess in Westminster Cathedral? What gives?

  10. I own a tux. Love wearing it.

I like any excuse to suit up, really. I get to look my best, surrounded by others looking their best, likely seeing or participating in something cool, while eating and drinking fancy food and drink.

Tux doesn’t guarantee a good time, but the times I’m wearing a tux and the times I’m doing something rare (for me) and awesome are strongly correlated.
