I noticed how some people usually say the exact opposite of what they mean or want.

My sister would always call herself an introvert or hate socializing but would always seek the presence of another person, and go out of her way to make friends, even as far as buying them a lot of things just to be friends with them.

My friend would always call me pretty and follow it up with something negative about her like calling herself ugly or fat but then would always assume that a random guy likes her, whenever she would take a photo of “us” it would only be 1/4 of me and her being the whole center in the picture.

There’s more example but I just realized this today, that what people say is sometimes the exact opposite of what they mean.

  1. Lmao yeah you’re right. I don’t know why people do it, but I think everyone’s guilty of it. I say I’m not looking for a relationship and then every room I enter I instantly scan for hot guys lol.

  2. In first case, your sister is confusing introversion with social anxiety. She’s not contradicting, she’s just self-identifying incorrectly.

In second case, it’s insecurity. When your friend puts herself down, it’s because she’s comparing herself and some people have a (very annoying) habit of uplifting someone by putting someone else down (herself in this case). But then at other times she’s seeking to uplift _herself_ though attention-based validation (assuming someone likes her).
