Which cities, in your opinion, deserve a Big 4 (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) sports team, but don’t have one yet?

  1. I think if there are multiple metros with two MLB teams, OKC and Nashville both deserve one as well

  2. Salt Lake for any of the 3 they don’t have.

It’s weird to me that Vegas doesn’t have an NBA team when I thought the kings might move years ago and now they have the other 3 majors.

Indy for the 2 they don’t have.

  3. I remember a similar question came up here a long time ago and I looked it up: the largest metro areas that don’t currently have a major sports team are:

    1. Austin, TX (although they have an MLS team now)

    2. Providence, RI (although they had an MLB team like 100 years ago)

    3. and Newport News / Virginia Beach, VA.

I think the latter would be interesting. The closest that Virginians have for major league sports are the DC teams.

There’s also Riverside / San Bernardino if you don’t consider that to be part of LA’s metro area.

  4. I second Hartford for getting the Whalers back.

Otherwise the only city I could see getting a franchise from the big 4 could maybe be Austin as it’s probably the biggest city in the country that lacks a big 4 franchise.

Also even though it isn’t in the US, Montreal should definitely get the Expos back along w Quebec getting the Nordiques again. Halifax could also be a good addition for an NHL team.

  5. For NHL Kansas City should get the coyotes. There is a big push to get more hockey here.

  6. MLB: Not the US, but can I say Montreal?

    NFL: San Diego

    NBA: Las Vegas or Seattle

    NHL: Milwaukee

Out of all the cities that don’t have a team in any of the four? Either Louisville or Virginia Beach.

  7. Most of the comments here are either for cities that already have a Big 4 team or Hartford, which, let’s face it, cannot support an NHL team in the modern era. Maybe “deserves” is loose there, but can a city deserve a team that it cannot possibly support?

The best ones are absolutely Canadian. Quebec City and Hamilton, definitely. Maybe Halifax, but even with a cornered market, it’s not a big market to begin with. These are really no-brainers for “deserving” a team. Tons of fans who would love and support the team.

Past that, I’m gonna say Louisville deserves an NBA team. Lots of basketball fans there, and probably enough to support them.

  8. Generally speaking, I wish no subsidy-sucking sports team in any city, unless it’s a situation like Green Bay since the team is publically owned.

Actually, Atherton California seems like a solid choice.

  9. There is not a single town in North America that would appreciate an NBA team more than Louisville

  10. Seattle Supersonics deserves to come back, miss this team since 2008. Houston should have a NHL team as well, Memphis/Nashville for MLB.

  11. MLB -Nashville
    NBA – Pittsburgh
    NFL – Orlando
NHL- Might not be popular or “growing the game” but give Greater Toronto a 2nd team

  12. For the MLB i would say a second team in the south probably Charlotte NC. Also i saw someone mention Montreal, i disagree. Canada should get a second team in the west probably Vancouver.

  13. i think you know exactly what i want. what happened in 2008 is the second worst thing to happen to seattle

  14. I think Nashville and Charlotte would both be pretty logical locations for MLB teams.

Seattle never should have lost their NBA team, especially to a market as small as OKC.
