    It’s been my experience that even within the US there is a great difference between the quality you can buy in the midwest and the south vs the coasts.

    The best steak you can buy in New York isn’t even an average steak in Texas. And I don’t mean at a restaurant, I mean at the grocery store. The ground beef at a Randalls will be better quality beef than the steak at a Meijer.

    You want the best beef, live in Texas, Oklahoma or Kansas. Best pork? Any state touching Iowa.

  3. I don’t know that US beef is best simply by virtue of only ever eating beef in North America and not having any comparison. I’ve had some incredibly tasty beef here, though.

    The worldwide “best”, as I understand it from various food blogs and expert articles is probably Argentine or Japanese beef.

    I’d certainly say that US Prime rates towards the top of the list, though.

  4. I just visited Argentina in November of 2022 and they hands down have the best beef in the world. That steak was insanely tender and delicious. The roast beef sandwiches I had too.. it was absolutely bonkers.

  5. Most Chefs would say Japan produces the highest quality beef. It would be hard to say that American beef is significantly better than beef from Argentina and Australia.

  6. At the Japanese restaurant in Epcot, we had the tasting menu. They had American Wagyu next to Japanese Wagyu. Japanese Wagyu was the clear winner. I have also had Argentinian beef that was amazing.
    I think America does a great job, but we also fill it full of antibiotics and hormones. Pure grass and grain fed beef would be different.

  7. I mean but my neighbor growing up raised Semmintal and Angus cows my parents would buy one butchered when they had the money. Nothing has beaten those steaks. Am I biased? You bet. Am I telling the truth? Affirmative, Iceman.

  8. “Best beef” is more about how it’s made than anything else. You can fuck up wagyu and you can make a random tri tip amazing. You can use bones and scrap meat to make incredible stock to use for all kinds of dishes. You can use “cheap” meat to make amazing dishes. Quality beef from anywhere is really excellent. Grass fed, very marbled but you can easily turn that amazing cut into shit if you don’t do a good job.

    So maybe the “best” is Japan, maybe Argentina, maybe the US, heck, anywhere. The best beef is the beef that gets prepared in a way that makes you love the fact you made it or had it made for you.

    That said, we make excellent beef of all kinds and we have the people to cook it excellently and the money to afford it.

    So maybe not a slam dunk #1 but we’re up there.

  9. I would say probably yes. I live in Japan and have travelled all over. I like the angus from Australia but not as much as the cuts you get in America. Angus is a bit tough.

    Wagyu is good but the marbled fat can get a bit much when you eat it in quantity.

  10. I have heard that Korean Hanwoo beef is some of the highest quality beef in the world. Most countries have between 20-35 cuts of beef, while Korean Hanwoo beef is divided into 120 cuts. It’s a huge part of the culture

  11. On average, across all cuts, preparation styles, and price ranges? Could be, probably rivaled by Argentina. For the single highest quality cut you can get? Probably genuine Japanese A5 Wagyu

    5-Australia

  13. I would put American , mid-west raised, 100% grass fed, hormone free beef around number 5.

  14. I think on average Argentina might edge out the US

    However, the best isn’t average. I think the US is the best place to find a variety of quality beef. One of the benefits to being a fat country
