I’m surprised it takes batteries – usually they’re powered by the chime.
Info: how long is the compartment?
LR14 or C sized are 50mm x 26mm – they are supposed to be for long life applications. They are available on line in uk
A lot of vintage ones are wind-up, no batteries. Check if this is the case. The round bell bit on the inside often turns and winds up the spring.

Worst case, you pop any 1.5v batteries in and fill the gap with a bit of rolled up tinfoil. I’ve done this in the past when I didn’t have a battery that fit something and couldn’t be bothered to get the correct one. I know tinfoil isn’t the best for conductivity, but hey, it worked fine.
Isn’t that a D size? They’ve fallen out of use but they used to be pretty common for things like torches.
> In the US, it would be comparable to a C size.
Would you be shocked to know that it’s a C size battery then?
