Is it too late to immigrate to America in your late forties?

  1. It honestly depends.

Do you have a highly in demand skill where you could qualify as a skilled worker?

Do you have a family member who could sponsor a visa in another way?

It’s not too late to immigrate in general, but it may be hard to get the qualifications as an adult.

  2. I teach English to refugees and many of them are in their 50’s and 60’s (or older). Is it too late? Generally no.

But you have to ask yourself what your expectations are once you get here- do you plan to work full time, do you plan to seek full citizenship, etc.

  3. People immigrate here at all different ages. Sometimes they start the process as a child, sometimes it’s not till they’re elderly

  4. No, not at all. It may be difficult to do so if you don’t have a high demand job. There are other ways to get Visas, so don’t get discouraged

  5. It’s not too late. However, there are some issues that would make it more difficult at some point.

For instance, you will not have a chance to work long enough to qualify for social security retirement benefits. That is government paid retirement income . Similar to a state pension. SSI + savings is what most American retirees live on. Without SSI, you would be completely responsible for your own retirement income.
