I mean how long do you want this list
American Pie.
99 Luftballons and Gangnam Style.
[This one.](https://youtu.be/SbL2pHsPaxw?si=PAqWiqmC8PpIqKVC)
Shenandoah is the most American song. Also the most beautiful American song. Go listen to Keith Jarrett play it and then argue with me.
This Land Is Your Land
This Land is Your Land is, absolutely the most American song. All others stem from this.
Ask Springsteen or Mellencamp what they think of Woody, and they’ll tell you there is no more American songwriter than him.
Take me Home, Country Roads by John Denver
And of course:
DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!!!
Probably a weird one because of how it got to this situation, but Seven Nation Army.
Yes it was first introduced to stadiums by a Belgian soccer team, but it’s a song that was written here and to this day you will hear in any of the big four stadiums.
I’m gonna throw a curveball here and say anything from the soundtrack to the cartoon “Over The Garden Wall”. It captures pre-WWII American folk culture very well (as does the show itself, which you should totally go and watch).
[America, Fuck Yeah](https://youtu.be/5uPoDNEn3I0?si=8_gop-oJDhxyGLoR)
American Pie, Alice’s Restaurant, God Bless America. Many more for sure.
Aaron Copland’s [Fanfare for the Common Man](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NjssV8UuVA)
[Simple Gifts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMtCh0VuoKg) (another Copland version of a traditional American tune)
I might also add Bill Conti’s [The Right Stuff](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkiY1a-ljYE) theme, because it encompasses a lot of the themes of America in the 20th century.
Country Roads
Not American but I like God bless the USA.
Tennessee whiskey, especially the Chris Singleton version.
Rocky Theme Song
God Bless the USA
The Old Town Road remix obviously.
A rap song with a country singer on the hook that samples an (industrial) rock song? There’s a reason why it was the longest running number one hit in Billboard history.
I have a few: *The Battle Cry of Freedom* by George Root, one of the most famous songs from the Civil War. I [particularly love this adaptation of it](https://youtu.be/cGfRWyAG-Z4?si=6s471I0Lz8wwry0X)
[*There She Stands*](https://youtu.be/8aZZquCQm8A?si=fqNOXnrv5uos9Pj8)-Michael W. Smith(2002)-While he is a Christian singer so he isn’t for everyone, this isn’t a religious song(for those who aren’t) and is an amazing tribute to American resilience. Also, since this is a song about 9/11, it’s been on my mind a lot the last couple days.
Also, *Shenandoah* and *Country Roads*, as others have mentioned.
I haven’t seen “Coming to America” by Neil Diamond.
When I think of American music, my mind always goes to big band jazz and swing. I guess it’s because it was the soundtrack to those past WW2 years when America really came into its own, it was the sound of a superpower being born.
I’m sorry if this sounds bitchy, but summer of 69 Is a Bryan Adams song, and he’s Canadian.
Battle Hymn of the Republic, its an aggressively American song in the best way
That’s Life – Frank Sinatra
The lyrics embody the American spirit
Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition.
