I’ve (28F) been seeing this guy (29M) for 2 months now. About a month in he got really drunk and I brought him back to my place for the night and put him to bed. Before he fell asleep he said “I didn’t say any L words right?” And I laughed and told him no he didn’t.

A month and a half in he said “I love you” while ending a phone call and I just giggled and yelled GOODBYE really drawn out and hung up. When I asked him what he said on the phone a couple days later he got all shy and said he didn’t say anything. I was being playful about it and we were both smiling and laughing.

Now a little after the 2 month mark he said “I love you” while falling asleep and cuddling and we both looked at each other wide eyed and I was smiling like crazy. He quickly turned over and said it was an “accident” but I kept cuddling him and joked that “yeah sure it was an accident”. He said he was ready to fall asleep so I dropped it.

The problem is that just two weeks ago I found out he was still talking to other people and he said he wasn’t ready to be serious. So I gave him some space and told him I would keep my options open as well.

I can’t tell if these are actually accidents or he’s really feeling a certain way. I felt like I loved him until I found out he was still talking to other people and that forced me to take a step back.

What do you think of this situation? I feel like I need to proceed with caution here.

  1. It wasn’t an accident. And keeping options open doesn’t mean he isn’t serious about you. It is just new. Interest from other people automatically slows down once the interest in your grows. If you like him, maybe show more interest and it will be reciprocated.
