  1. Last morning in Rome, it’s been a very pleasant few days… mostly eating and walking but that’s fine with me;-)

Next stop (and almost last stop for this summer) is Lyon.So looks like more eating…we have a big birthday party to attend as well, hopefully the wine will be flowing too!

  2. My Top 3 European “Beach Destination” Rankings

    1. **Crete Greece** : Pro: Incredible beaches and food. Con: Insane drivers and lacking infrastructure.

    2. **Sardinia Italy** : Pro: Some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen. Con: There is little/no wildlife in the waters (really sad), and I was a bit disappointed with the food.

    3. **Menorca Spain** : Pro: Great beaches with easy accessibility, awesome food as well. Cons: The famous/popular Calas are super crowded.

  3. So apparently Rishi’s seriously contemplating not extending [HS2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Speed_2?wprov=sfla1) all the way to Manchester. Even though construction has already started on the London to Birmingham leg, is almost certainly going to be extended to Crewe (a town of 55,000 about 50 km from Manchester, an urban area of over 2 million people), and over 2 billion has already been spent on the proposed extension to Manchester.

I was against construction of HS2 at first, but now that construction’s started we can’t just continue progressively half-arsing it further and further in the most short-sighted way possible. All that’s going to happen if you half-arse it is that it’s just going to get *more* expensive to build in the long run. Bad enough that we’re not even building a teeny tiny high-speed link from Euston to St Pancras so that people can travel straight from Manchester to Paris/Brussels and back without having to walk for 10 minutes to a different station with a large suitcase.

Oh, and why are they thinking of scrapping the extension to Manchester again? Because it’s money they can’t spend on cutting taxes for rich people 🤦

  4. How do you know that a household has cats? You pull a closet, and there are fifteen scrunchies behind it 🤦‍♀️ Anyhow, now I restored them, so that the cat can lose them again. Let’s see how long it takes.

I wish Germany had something between summer and Christmas. Stores are already selling Christmas stuff, which is a bit unsettling. It’s just turned to autumn.
